Craig Von Deylen, Principal

EDUCATION
Ball State University

Bachelor of Architecture
Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design

Craig Von Deylen holds a NCARB certification as a Licensed Architect in the state of Indiana. Craig considers himself to be a modern renaissance man. He has over the span of his professional career been involved in every aspect of the built environment. For 15 years he managed the day-to-day operation of a construction company overseeing 15 or more employees including skilled craftsmen in every aspect of construction. During that time, Craig made it a point to try every trade in order to understand the rigors required to accomplish those tasks effectively. Craig started developing property in the 1996 and has been the primary developer of numerous projects across a broad spectrum of building types. He has been awarded the prestigious Adaptive Use Award from the Historic Landmarks Foundation of Indiana, and a Monumental Award for Neighborhood Revitalization by the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce. He brings all of this experience to the design of projects at Blackline, making him a more effective designer by tempering great ideas with realistic expectations. Craig remains devoted to community development through historic preservation and adaptive re-use combined with community-engaged redevelopment.

In 2009 Craig purchased the Murphy Arts Center in order to preserve it as a home for the arts on the near Southeast side of Indianapolis and keep it from going into foreclosure, and it has since flourished and has regained its position as an Arts destination.

Craig currently serves the City of Indianapolis as the chairperson of the Marion County Board of Zoning Appeals, and is a past member of the State of Indiana Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission as well as the Marion County Plat Committee and the Indianapolis Greenways Committee. Craig is also a maker of the board of directors for GangGang and the past board chairperson for Southeast Community Services.
